We are devastated to learn of the untimely passing of jaimie branch – a unique and inspiring trumpeter, composer, collaborator and friend. We were lucky to be able to work with jaimie on a number of occasions in what were some of the most memorable gigs at the EFG London Jazz Festival in recent years. She brought a fiery presence, a spectacular unpredictability, a razor sharp wit, and an incredible range of improvisation along with her brilliant Fly or Die band.
She was also a truly empathetic and caring person, with a deep sense of moral justice and concern for those less fortunate than her. While her personal connection to Chicago and New York was beyond doubt, she had a clear bond with London and the close friendships she made here. We had so looked forward to our future work with her and it’s heartbreaking to know those will never see the light of day, but we feel extremely grateful and privileged to have been graced with her warm presence and soaring musicianship.
Thanks for everything, jaimie.
