The future of UK jazz showcased as Serious presents artists from our Take Five Talent Development initiative, supporting emerging jazz and improvising musicians through mentorship, residencies, and collaborations. Past participants include Seb Rochford, Shabaka Hutchings, Yazz Ahmed, and Nubya Garcia.

Midori Jaeger

Midori is a cellist, vocalist and composer who trained at the Royal Academy of Music. Midori’s multi-genre musicianship has led her to perform with jazz, folk, western classical and Indian classical artists around Europe. Midori’s single ‘Touch’ was selected by China Moses as Jazz FM’s Late Night Track of the Week and her latest EP gained features from Podcart and RGM Magazine, a live performance on BBC Radio London, and a sold-out Launch show at the Green Note in London. ‘What makes Midori stand out from the crowd is her breathtaking songwriting’ - RGM Magazine  
  
Nishla Smith

Nishla Smith is a jazz singer and composer. Her work takes various forms but is always centred around storytelling. She has recently made work for Manchester Jazz Festival, Opera North and Manchester Collective.

DoomCannon
DoomCannon is a London-based composer, producer & multi-instrumentalist spearheading a plethora of forward-thinking, improvised jazz-inspired outfits. Exhibiting free jazz compositions with a new contemporary flare, unveils DoomCannon’s trailblazing sensibilities. Signed to Giles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, he has released his debut album ‘Renaissance’ this year.

Take Five is an annual talent development programme produced by Serious, and funded by the PRS Foundation, Arts Council England, and Serious Trust.
