Live jazz from five-piece band Xandau as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2023

Alex Lockheart is a unique, exciting emerging improviser and composer on the London jazz festival scene. He has a distinct musical identity combined with a virtuosic approach to the instrument and an unparalleled energy that can be seen on every live performance. Alex has played in lots of different types of musical projects throughout his early career. Some of these highlights include playing at The Vortex, Bimhaus, Boomtown Festival and Greenman Festival. Alex has been a defining voice in projects such as; Ramnastax, Arkocean and recently Kasper Reitkerk's KRISX.

His music is a blend of Contemporary Jazz, Progressive Rock, Groove and World Music. He incorporates song-like melodies, virtuosic improvisations, catchy riffs, hard hitting grooves and sensitive musical moments that will take you on a journey throughout the performance. Alex's compositional inspiration comes out of a love for our natural environment, and a sheer joy for being alive. Taking inspiration from nature and experiences and scenarios that occur through life's journey.

Alex takes influences from New York scenes such as the music of Wayne Shorter, Gilad Hekselman, Matthew Stevens and Walter smith III's 'In Common' and from Arron Park's 'Little Big' to Joao Bosco, Pedro Martins all the way back to London from the likes of Rob Luft and Femi Tomowo.

Alex's mission is to write and play music that can be appreciated by a wide array of audiences and can adapt to playing in different venues such as jazz clubs to standing live music venues, and also to connect emotionally to those who hear the music.
