Clark Tracey has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years, since joining his distinguished father Stan Tracey's bands in 1978.

He has led his own groups since the early 1980s – groups that have become famous for showcasing the considerable talents of young musicians, giving them a platform to explore their own compositions, and allowing them to perform to a much wider audience.

This evening, he will be joined on sax by Alex Clarke – an artist he booked for Herts Jazz Festival in 2021, and has worked with regularly ever since. Alex was a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2020, and winner of the ‘Rising Star’ category in the 2019 British Jazz Awards. She has recorded her most recent album on Clark's ‘Stray Horn Records’ label. The quintet also features the gifted pianist Graham Harvey, who first made his name as pianist and MD for Incognito (1991-2001), and who has been Stacey Kent’s pianist since 2006, as well as leading his own bands. Virtuoso bassist, James Owston, has performed in Clark's groups since leaving college in 2018, as is one of three members of the quintet under the age of 30. Completing the lineup is Emily Masser, a rising star on vocals, still a student at Guildhall School of Music.
