The Big Smoke Family are purveyors of voodoo funk - a mix of punchy horns, heavy street beats, chants and samples. Following in the footsteps of modern funk bands such as Galactic and Trombone Shorty, and drawing inspiration from Mardi Gras Indians, James Brown, The Herbaliser and Eddie Bo.
Electrifying live performers, their renowned show sees them regularly sell out upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s, The Bussey Building, Hootananny, and Pizza Express, with festival appearances including Bestival, Secret Garden Party, EFG London Jazz Festival, Ealing Blues Festival and Wisselfeesten Belgium.
Their sound has garnered support from Jazz FM, Resonance FM, as well as established funk bands such as Galactic from New Orleans and The New Mastersounds in the UK.
Following the release of their most recent single “Twitchy”, they appeared at Ronnie Scott’s for 3 dates in February closing for Booker T on the London leg of his UK tour.
