As of June 1 2019, John has stepped back as a Director of Serious.
John will continue to be associated with the company, in a role as a programme consultant on selected individual projects.
John is producing the concert of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Music at this year’s BBC Proms on August 29, with the nu Civilisation Orchestra, Monty Alexander, Carleen Anderson and the BBC Singers.
He will also continue his work on the long-term planning for Jason Moran’s Harlem Hellfighters project, which toured internationally last year, as well as the partnership with Peter Wiegold and Club Inegales, as co-curator of The Third Orchestra.
Over the past year, John has handed over areas of work that he previously led on to his colleagues Pelin Opcin (Director of Programming) and Rob Farhat (Talent Development and Jazz Programme Manager).
Claire Whitaker and David Jones will of course continue to lead on all the areas of their activity at Serious.
