Guildhall Session Orchestra presents Vangelis; Albedo 0.39

Directed by Mike Roberts

A 50 year celebration and reflection of Vangelis' Albedo 0.39 album, reimagined for electronics, jazz quartet and orchestra.

Academy Award Winner, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (Vangelis), is widely regarded as one of the most influential and important figures in the history of electronic music. From poplar music roots with Forminx, Aphrodite's Child and a partnership with Jon Anderson, Vangelis emerged as mainstream film composer in the early 80's with hybrid electroacoustic scores for Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner.

Albedo 0.39, released in 1976, was Vangelis' 2nd album as a solo studio artist and his first UK top 20 title. In contrast to his classically inspired first album, Heaven and Hell, Albedo 0.39 draws heavily on jazz and blues influences and features Vangelis playing all instruments in addition to programmed sequence pulses. In 1976, the earth's Albedo Value (a measure of reflectivity) was measured at 0.39 (on a scale of 0 to 1). It now has a measure of around 3.0, which dramatically highlights the decline of our planet's reflective power as a result of climate change over the past 50 years.

Guildhall Session Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble of talented alumni from Guildhall School of Music & Drama which has recently been making waves in the music world, collaborating with celebrated artists and pushing creative boundaries.
