Two album launches from two great bands . Twospeak new LP ‘Fictions’ and Valia Calda release 'Homeland' reflect on physical and ideological displacement and the theme of migration and exile. A perfect juxtapostion of important messages and cutting edge new music

Valia Calda
The group emerged into the London Jazz scene in 2013, led by guitarist Nikos Ziarkas (Theon Cross, Chelsea Carmichael) and Thodoris Ziarkas (Savina Yannatou, Yazz Ahmed). Their music is rooted in the folk music of Epirus (Greece) and psychedelic jazz, which also tangles with punk inspired guitar riffs and modal improvisations. Their new album Homeland, was nominated in the Best Jazz on Bandcamp for May 2023, in the Top 10 of PBS Melbourne, and been featured around the globe: KEXP, BBC6, Giles’s Peterson Worldwide FM, NTS, Soho Radio.

The band has performed at the EFG London Jazz Festival, BBC Late Proms, Cambridge Jazz Festival, Royal Albert Hall, Vortex Jazz Club,

Nikos Ziarkas - Guitar (Theon Cross, Chelsea Carmichael)
Sam Warner -trumpet/flugelhorn (Ariwo, Riot Jazz),
James Allsopp -bass clarinet/tenor saxophone Nikos Ziarkas – guitar (Dr. John, The Last Poets)
Gaspar Sena – drums
Thodoris Ziarkas - double bass (Alfa Mist, Maria Chiara Argirò)

Twospeak
'Twospeak don't sound like anyone else on the vibrant British jazz scene' (Kind of Jazz). Their music is an exciting blend of cutting-edge jazz, rock and indie music composed for the band by saxophonist Ronan Perrett.

This gig will celebrate the release of their new LP ‘Fictions’, None More Records,
Ronan shares, ‘the music that became this album started out in 2020 when I started to use non-musical art as a direct source of material for composing. I took inspirational paintings, books, sculptures and films and translated them into musical cells of notes, rhythms and forms which became the basis for each song. The pieces are named after their original sources of inspiration and the goal has been to capture the story, character and mood of the original artwork in the music’

Ronan Perrett- Saxophone
Mike De Souza- Guitar
Joseph Costi- Synths
Ben Brown- Drums

This is going to be one thrilling night with not one but two awesome , young, vibrant and up and coming bands.
