Tina Carr and her Band featuring Miguel Gorodi, Max Luthert, Kieron McLeod, Sam Newbould, Rod Oughton, Matt Robinson, Àánú Sodipe

Following her sell-out album launch at last year’s jazz festival, Tina is back with her husky voice and authentic jazz sound, bringing together an exciting group of musicians to perform material from her forthcoming album - expect to be captivated.

Tina is a relative newcomer to the scene, but not to the music – jazz was her first language. A few years ago, she walked away from a professional life working with freelance journalists and threw herself into music-making. “I started listening again - at work, at home, in the car, in the street, at concerts, gigs, opening my ears to music across every genre. It took me over. And I began to sing again. An older voice maybe – but a true one.” With a love of great women singers, from Carmen Macrae, to Annie Ross, Sheila Jordan, Jessye Norman, Tina has her own unique take. Her forthcoming album, “Moon Over Mildmay”, a mix of lesser-known standards and original work, celebrates that moment of re-discovering her love of music – a moment that continues to educate, excite and inspire her.

Tina has sung in London at Green Note, Karamel N22, Toulouse Lautrec, Vortex, Piano Smithfield, Max Klub - Slovenia and Jazz Café Alto - Amsterdam. She has performed her show “A Little Bit of Monk and Others” with her band, and played duo gigs with Matt Robinson, and guitarist Billy Marrows. During last year's EFG London Jazz Festival, Tina launched her debut album ‘Songs for Curly’ in a sell-out gig at the Actors Church in Covent Garden. BBC Radio London presenter and vocalist Jumoke Fashola hailed it as “ a very distinctive voice – a stunning debut .Tina has leapt into the world of music with both feet”

The band is led by Tina’s longtime collaborator, award-winning pianist / composer / producer Matt Robinson. Matt studied at the Royal Academy of Music and performs, writes and records with leading musicians on the UK scene including Snowpoet, The Magic Lantern, Emilia Martensson, Josienne Clarke, and his own duo, Wanderland with Natalie Wildgoose. Miguel Gorodi is a trumpet player, composer and teacher working across a broad spectrum of jazz and improvised music. One of the premier bassists of his generation in the UK, Max Luthert is known for his distinctive bass sound and approach to improvisation. Max has performed around the world with artists such as Bill Laurance, Nubya Garcia, Zara McFarlane, Duncan Eagles, Moses Boyd and Binker Golding. Kieran McLeod plays dynamic trombone, blending global influences from New Orleans’ Jazz to Scottish Folk. Notable projects include collaborations with Charlie Hunter and Ivo Neame. Saxophonist Sam Newbould is one of the most distinctive voices on the European scene. His Amsterdam-based quintet have performed at North Sea Jazz Festival, BIMHUIS and Love Supreme Festival. Their latest album, Homing, mixes the melodic lyricism of jazz and folk with heavy danceable grooves and explosive improvisations. Drummer Rod Oughton is also composer, educator and bandleader. Current projects include Tomorrow's New Quartet, Imperfect Bread, OK Aurora, Tom Ridout Quintet and Sargento Pimienta. Àánú Sodipe is a multi-genre violinist, Afro-Classical composer/songwriter. She has toured with Chineke! Orchestra , played at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra. In 2023 she performed with Stormzy at the 2023 Brit Awards, and with Afrobeat Artist Asake at his concert at the O2 Arena.
