Released in 1962, Herbie Hancock’s first album as a bandleader, “Takin’ Off”, is just the start
of an illustrious career and set of seminal albums featuring Hancock’s compositions and
musical leanings. In the hard bop idiom, this album includes such classic tracks as
“Watermelon Man” and “Driftin”. In tonight’s retelling of this classic album, the sYp House
Band (led by Tom Ridout – tenor saxophone) presents Deschanel Gordon - Piano in the
hot seat!
