Celebrating the Jazz Clubs
The Harper Trio brings together three fearless improvisers from the UK jazz scene to form a unique and boundary-pushing group. Their sound blends contemporary jazz improvisation and Middle Eastern modes into a rich, genre-defying experience.
The Harper Trio brings together three fearless improvisers from the UK jazz scene to form a unique and boundary-pushing group. At its heart is electric pedal harpist Maria-Christina Harper, whose compositions and distinctive playing style have carved out new sonic territory for the harp in jazz and beyond. A bold innovator, she combines extended techniques, live effects, and a powerful rhythmic drive to create cinematic and expressive textures.
Joining her are award-winning saxophonist Josephine Davies – known for her work with Satori and the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra – and in-demand drummer Evan Jenkins (Neil Cowley Trio, Matt Schofield). Together, they explore new ways of interacting in a trio format, eschewing traditional roles in favour of open improvisation, groove-driven exploration and atmospheric layering. The music draws from a wide range of influences – from Middle Eastern folk and ambient minimalism to post-rock, spiritual jazz and the avant-garde – yet always remains lyrical and rooted in clear melodic ideas.
