EFG London Jazz Festival is very proud to present its inaugural showcase of artists from Serious’ prestigious Take Five talent development programme – a scheme that supports emerging jazz and improvising musicians through mentorship, residencies, and collaborations. Past participants include Seb Rochford, Shabaka Hutchings, Yazz Ahmed, and Nubya Garcia. The inaugural Take Five presents features performances by 10 artists from the last two years of Take Five, who Serious have commissioned to create a bespoke video of a performance of some of their newest material which will be broadcast throughout the festival.
Skeltr began as a late night, post-gig session between Sam Healey (keys) and Craig Hanson (drums) in Manchester. Forging a shared connection inspired by Post-bop and Modern groove, the pair developed a tightly knit, highly musical duo. Their first UK gig in 2017 at the Manchester Jazz Festival saw the duo sell all of their physical records of their debut release in one day. Within a few months of this auspicious start, they supported L.A sensation KNOWER on UK tour, appeared on JazzFM, Worldwide FM, listed as ‘ones to watch’ in Jazzwise Magazine as well as performed across many European jazz festivals.
Their second album 'Dorje' was recently released on Ubuntu Music. The album combines heartfelt statements of sensitive, illuminating, incensed improvisation which stem from ardent and fluent melodies, and seeks to provide the listener with a space in which to explore their own relativities with guidance, inspiration and accompaniment.
