Robin Phillips presents Return From The Source, inspired by his 2019 Chicago–New Orleans ride. Expect blues, jazz, and storytelling with film screening Back To The Source and a powerful live show, now featuring electric guitar and cello with his trio.

Robin Phillips is a renowned vocalist, pianist, and bandleader celebrated for his inventive approach to jazz and blues. His music combines storytelling with technical skill, earning him recognition as one of the most creative singer-pianists on the UK scene.

In 2019, Robin undertook a Harley-Davidson journey from Chicago to New Orleans, tracing the roots of America’s blues and jazz traditions. Immersing himself in the people, culture, and music of the Deep South, he transformed the experience into two major works: Back To The Source, an award-winning documentary, and Return From The Source, a new album of original songs blending blues grit, jazz flair, and narrative depth.

This Festival performance presents the full story. The evening begins with a screening of Back To The Source, followed by a powerful live set of music from Return From The Source. To capture the scope of the project on stage, Robin has expanded his trio into a quintet. Joining him on vocals and piano are Louis Thorne on electric guitar and Natalie Rozario on cello and vocals, adding fresh textures to his established rhythm team of Rob Anstey on bass and Alex Best on drums. Together they create a compelling mix of groove, colour, and lyricism that pushes the music into bold new territory.

The show promises an immersive journey from screen to stage, combining film, narrative, and live performance. Robin’s work has been praised for its ability to balance technical brilliance with raw emotional power. The addition of electric guitar and cello enriches the sound, offering a unique blend that honours the tradition of the music while giving it a contemporary voice.

“This project is more than an album, it’s living history retold through extraordinary music.” – UK Jazz News
