Robert Mitchell and band present a tribute to the iconic BBC TV Series Jazz 625.
Jazz 625, which ran on BBC TV from 1964 to 1966 was the most iconic jazz programme ever on BBC TV and featured appearances from Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Cleo Laine and many other big starts of the era.
To celebrate Jazz 625’s sixtieth birthday Robert Mitchell reunites the band that appeared on an award winning BBC TV Jazz 625 special back in 2019. Pianist Robert, saxophonist Jean Toussaint, bass player Larry Bartley and drummer Rod Youngs will play classic tunes that appeared on the original Jazz 625 and other jazz gems from the era.
Legendary UK bass player Dave Green, one of the only people still alive who appeared on the show, will play a special solo set and join the band for a jam. Host Jez Nelson will also be talking to a Jazz 625 expert. Join us for a celebration of a special moment in UK music history when jazz was on primetime BBC 1.
