NYJO is a registered charity with a mission to empower young jazz musicians and inspire audiences across the UK through participation projects and impactful live performances. Since its founding in 1965, NYJO has grown from a single orchestra into a multifaceted organisation supporting musicians of all styles and standards. Whether aspiring to become professional artists or simply playing for fun, NYJO nurtures creative development, offering opportunities to perform under the mentorship of and alongside leading guest artists and musical directors.
Pablo Barrios is a Venezuelan-born pianist, composer, and percussionist known for his electrifying blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz. Based in London, he is the musical director of the NYJO Latin Collective and a regular performer at venues such as Alfie’s Soho, Soho Live Music Club, and the Soho Jazz Festival. His virtuosic style has taken him to Westminster Abbey, Malta’s Manoel Theatre, and even a royal commission for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. A classically trained musician and award-winning composer, Pablo studied at the Royal College of Music under mentors including Mark-Anthony Turnage and Mike Moran. Whether leading a high-energy Latin ensemble or exploring solo improvisation, he brings rhythm, soul, and innovation to every performance.
