Club Inégales re-opens with a CD release and gig celebrating 10 years and 21 seasons, with special guests Gazelle Twin, Byron Wallen and Murray Lachlan Young
Club Inégales gigs have always had the same form. Resident band Notes Inégales play, then guests, then they play together, worked out on the day.
The club have welcomed people from every musical style and every country. From street children from a puppet project in Cairo, through to the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. From ancient Korean or Chinese music through to the radical pop of Gazelle Twin. From Evan Parker’s wild free improvisation through to the elegant jazz of Lionel Loueke, from quiet Chinese erhu through to live electronics.
And always to celebrate, not fusion (!) but the joy of difference. In set II we’ve heard wonderful music from all around the world, but then there’s been the the explosions as guests meet club band in set III.
There were so many amazing moments in those 95 gigs. and now long-term partner NMC Recordings are releasing a CD of highlights. With great tracks, but also - somewhere - something from every single gig!
So tonight, entitled CELEBRATE, the band will play with three of the special guests from those times, including Gazelle Twin, Murray Lachlan Young and Byron Wallen. And all the others past guests will be invited to be there!
This launch will be part of an Autumn series, rekindling this wonderful space, with four events including associate artists, The Third Orchestra and debates about where music is now.
During this there will be a call for young emerging composer-curators/bands to propose a project for a follow-up series, entitled RENEW, in the spring - opening this wonderful space to a new generation.
