Each episode of Moment’s Notice showcases five of London’s leading lights in the art of spontaneous composition.
In a one-off performance, where musicians will be playing together - if not meeting - for the very first time, two bands play fully-improvised, 40-minute sets in front of a live audience. The performance follows the format of a duo set, trio set and culminates in a combo quintet set.
Moment’s Notice is unique in its bringing together of musicians from all corners of the scene. Line-ups are as inclusive, startling and open-minded as the music borne out of each episode, every one of which is curated by the event creator, organiser and music photographer George Nelson.
Moving away from genre association or surface aesthetics, it is that of shared music principles that is the adhesive binding these combinations together.
With 22 episodes to date, Moment’s Notice has featured the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Angel Bat Dawid, Hyelim Kim, Cassie Kinoshi, ESKA, Laura Jurd, Moses Boyd, Byron Wallen, Theon Cross, Oscar Jerome, Alice Zawadzki, Binker Golding, Jason Yarde, Ashley Henry, Xhosa Cole, John Edwards, Sarathy Korwar, Anthony Joseph, Tom Skinner and Rosie Turton.
Hop aboard Uber Boat by Thames Clippers in the morning and enjoy a unique performance from Ewan Bleach as you sail down the Thames. The boat will arrive in time for Moment's Notice at The Wilds, separate ticket required. The venue is an eighteen-minute walk from Barking Riverside Pier. Find out more info here
Episode 9, Season 2 takes place on Sunday afternoon, November 13th in the Exhibition Room at The Wilds, a new community and ecological event space and café in Barking Riverside, taking Moment’s Notice outside of its spiritual home AMP Studios on the Old Kent Road.
