Lucy Wijnands ft Rob Barron Trio | Exclusive Birdland Artist from New York

Fri 21 Nov 2025–Sat 22 Nov 2025

Straight from Birdland NYC, award winning jazz vocalist Lucy Wijnands brings an exclusive show to London. With her soulful voice, refined swing, and intimate storytelling, this rising star promises an unforgettable night of world-class jazz.

Lucy Wijnands is a Kansas City born jazz vocalist whose voice carries the warmth of her heritage and the poise of a modern storyteller. The daughter of stride-piano master Bram Wijnands, she grew up surrounded by the sounds of swing, performing from a young age in Kansas City’s Blue Room, the Majestic Steakhouse, and even touring Europe.

After moving East, Lucy graduated from SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Music in 2020 as the Ella Fitzgerald Scholar and recipient of the President’s Award for Achievement. That same year she won the 4th Annual Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition and received a DownBeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocal Soloist. Her reputation quickly spread through New York, leading to a 16-week residency with the legendary Birdland Big Band and performances at venues such as Mezzrow. She has already shared the stage with greats including Jon Faddis, Joe Lovano, and Kenny Washington.

Critics and audiences alike praise Lucy for her maturity and depth, noting a rare ability to connect emotionally while honouring the swing tradition. With a voice that is soulful, expressive, and effortlessly musical, she is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young vocalists to emerge from the New York scene in recent years.

Supporting Lucy for this special appearance is the Rob Barron Trio, led by London-based pianist, composer, and arranger Rob Barron. Described as “one of the most creative and versatile musicians of his generation,” Barron has been a fixture of the UK jazz scene for over a decade. His trio, featuring Josh Morrison on drums, is known for its refined, inventive piano jazz rooted in the great trio tradition. Barron’s most recent trio album From This Moment On was awarded five stars by BBC Music Magazine, which hailed it as “classic piano trio jazz at its very best.”
