This exciting new Hammond organ trio brings together three of the UK’s most distinctive jazz voices: Sam Leak (organ), Tom Ollendorff (guitar), and Will Cleasby (drums). Blending soulful grooves with harmonic richness and rhythmic sophistication, the group presents a compelling mix of original compositions and imaginative reworkings of jazz standards.
Rooted in the classic organ trio tradition of Jimmy Smith, Larry Young, and Larry Goldings, the trio also draws inspiration from the modern guitar-led sounds of Gilad Hekselman and Kurt Rosenwinkel, alongside the colours of gospel, folk, and classical music.
Sam Leak, described by Jazz FM’s Helen Mayhew as “one of the brightest stars in the jazz piano galaxy,” leads the group from the Hammond organ, bringing his trademark combination of lyricism, groove, and deep musical intelligence.
Tom Ollendorff, noted for his “exquisite virtuoso musicianship that tugs at the heart strings” (All About Jazz), is fast becoming one of the most acclaimed guitarists on the international scene, known for his expressive tone and intricately crafted yet emotionally resonant compositions.
Will Cleasby, a first-class graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire, has quickly established himself as one of London’s most in-demand drummers. Known for his versatility and dynamic sensitivity, he has performed with leading artists including Grammy winner Kurt Elling, and is a member of acclaimed groups such as the Judi Jackson band, Kansas Smitty’s House Band, and Mark Kavuma and the Banger Factory.
Together, this trio offers a fresh and sophisticated take on the organ trio format—intimate, interactive, and brimming with joy.
