Los Angeles-based, Lady Blackbird (aka Marley Munroe) embodies musical inspirations such as Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Chaka Khan in her work whilst possessing a style and emotional intensity that is very much her own.
Her debut album Black Acid Soul received a five-star Guardian review and features a stellar band including former Miles Davis pianist Deron Johnson.

With a deep and eclectic love of music, Jelly is heavily involved in both the jazz and DIY/post-punk scenes in London. She’s previously released on taste-maker labels Nice Swan (Sports Team, Pip Bloom, English Teacher) and Gearbox Records (Binker and Moses, Theon Cross). She also runs regular jam nights at Windmill Brixton which have been called “joyful” and “intimate” by Jazzwise.
This show is presented as part of a partnership between the EFG London Jazz Festival and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, bringing incredible music to venues across the area for the second year.

This is heady, haunting, sexy, soulful, heartbreaking stuff. With a voice that suggests a cross between Mahalia Jackson and Nina Simone, Lady Blackbird tears your heart apart and puts it back together again
