Recognised as one of the UK's leading contemporary jazz ensembles, the Julian Siegel Quartet is acclaimed for its imaginative compositions, exceptional musicianship and compelling live performances. The quartet is known for its originality, adventurous spirit and remarkable musical interplay.
Julian Siegel is one of Britain's most respected saxophonists, composers and bandleaders. A BBC Jazz Award winner for Best Instrumentalist, he has performed and recorded with leading international musicians including Kenny Wheeler, Django Bates, Hermeto Pascoal, Bill Frisell, Andrew Hill, Steve Swallow, John McLaughlin and Gary Husband. His music combines sophisticated composition, adventurous improvisation and a distinctive contemporary jazz language.
Liam Noble is one of Britain's most original jazz pianists, renowned for his adventurous improvisation, harmonic imagination and distinctive musical voice. Oli Hayhurst is a highly respected bassist, admired for his rich tone, melodic playing and sensitive musicianship, and has been an integral member of the quartet for many years. Gene Calderazzo is one of Europe's leading jazz drummers, celebrated for his dynamic playing, rhythmic creativity and exceptional versatility, as well as his long-standing collaboration with Julian.
Together, the quartet combines technical mastery, fearless improvisation and beautifully crafted compositions, creating performances characterised by energy, lyricism and remarkable musical interaction.
