An ethereal evening, launching trumpeter Chris Dowding's new EP - 'Love in Outer Space EP', plus a set by new improvising quartet Archangel Complex.
Archangel Complex were formed after the dissolution of the band Tolerance Manoeuvre in 2024.
Joseph Stokes, Sarah Woolfenden, and collaborative member Miles Levin have regrouped along with a new member Stephen Jarvis to take flight as Archangel Complex. Archangel Complex create spacious, hauntingly cinematic soundscapes that fuse emotional depth with compositional subtlety. Their work evokes the ethereal and the transportive. It’s the sound of an angel struggling to take to the air to reach the higher realms carrying the great weight of human complex emotions eventually reaching the heavens.
Stephen Jarvis explores synth electronics, experimenting and producing since the early 00s, his intuitive playing leans into analogue processing, embracing the incidental, ad-hoc and unexpected.
Miles Levin a well respected jazz drummer, who has developed his personal style to an almost cinematic orchestral free form flow. Using mallets, brushes, and sticks his drumming gracefully shifts from ambient cymbal work to a thunderous Billy Cobham tinged glory. Sarah Woolfenden plays with many established acts, providing her gleaming shining trumpet playing and her angelic voice as well as masterfully improvising with various percussive instruments and loops.
Joseph Stokes plays explorative guitar ranging from ambient atmospheres to dark and heavy post rock discordant noise. Joseph's vocals provide a lyrical thematic spine to the band’s compositions and are often fragile and intimate.
Chris Dowding is a trumpeter and workshop leader based in Norwich. His ‘In My Experience’ project is centred around short poems, which are translated into musical notes, and transfigured into a soundworld of shifting melodies, hypnotic patterns and abstract beats.
Tonight’s set is a launch for a new EP - ‘Love in Outer Space EP’, featuring a beautiful video by Birmingham-based visuals artist and violinist, Sarah Farmer.
