Illasoul’s 14th installement of the ‘In Real Time’ series partners with EFG London Jazz Festival in welcoming back DoomCannon to the Ninety One Living Room stage!

DoomCannon is the maverick alter ego of London-based composer, producer & multi-instrumentalist Dominic Canning. Having forged his craft as part of inspired outfits TriForce & Project Karnak, the prolific South Londoner is ready to step to the fore with his debut solo offering.

A proud alumni of jazz music education and artist development institutions Kinetika Bloco and Tomorrow’s Warriors, DoomCannon distils the wisdom of the elders, while taking time to give back to the next generation, as he prepares to make his own indelible mark on the musical landscape.

The stars are already aligned: a fateful encounter with saxophonist Ahnansé placed DoomCannon at the epic-centre of the Steamdown explosion. Whilst playing at their legendary weekly nights, he was approached by award-winning soul/ R&B vocalist Celeste to become her musical director, a position that has placed him on stage performing at the Brit Awards and Later with Jools Holland, as well as opening up new touring and recording opportunities.

DoomCannon’s soundscape is a synthesis of lessons gleaned from forays into hip hop and free jazz, musical adventures in Brazil and life experiences as a young black man growing up in London. His forthcoming album ‘Renaissance’, set for release on Brownswood Records, promises to reinforce his reputation as a heavyweight player with a message for the people.
