Persian kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor and the three Dutch jazz musicians of the Rembrandt Trio played their first concert together in 2013 and have been touring worldwide ever since. The musicians formed a deep friendship that led to the album release, It’s Still Autumn.

The album has been lauded for its ability to merge two different cultures to form a surprising harmony and an undefinable new sound. Kayhan Kalhor has been instrumental in popularising Persian music in the West, and the Rembrandt Trio is known for its pioneering work in blending art music from the Middle East with improvised Jazz.

Pianist Rembrandt Frerichs, bass player Tony Overwater and drummer Vinsent Planjer are known for the remarkable use of historical instruments, which can be heard on the album: a modern copy of a 1790 fortepiano, 1650 Violone and the self-invented ‘Whisper Kit’ which brings together percussion instruments from various cultures and periods to create a rich rhythmic basis.

Together with the kamancheh, they have created an unparalleled sound that transcends boundaries.

Please note, Hossein Alizadeh is no longer able to perform this date. The event will still go ahead as planned with Kayhan Kalhor.

“You can get lost in this music in a wonderful way. It roams through far-flung provenances and ages…mystically tinted, mysterious sounds, which echo in the inclined listener for a long time.”

Jazz Thing, Germany

“Extra-worldly beautiful…The compactness of this music, the merging of two completely different cultures and the way in which it is performed is a perpetual surprise.”
