Fergus Quill’s Imaginary Big Band – Pop-up performances around Barking
Sat 11 November 2023

‘Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band’ is a large left-field Leeds-based ensemble, led by composer, arranger, conductor and bassist Fergus Quill. The band is an organic and fluid ensemble of more than 25 of the most exciting young musicians drawn from the city’s vibrant jazz, experimental and electronic music scenes.
The band will be playing pop-up performances across the borough, including at Barking Station and Barking Market.
Initially inspired by the cosmic jazz legend Sun Ra, the band grew into a dynamic musical force with a reputation for original compositions, experimental arrangements, and energetic live performances that feature mass dancing, mosh pits and crowd surfing.
Fergus Quill is a composer, arranger and bassist from Leeds. He is an established performer within the city’s live music scene, building a reputation for original compositions that reflect an eclectic spectrum of influences ranging from Sidney Bechet to Boredoms.
This event is part of a partnership between the EFG London Jazz Festival and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, celebrating the cultural heritage of the borough through gigs in local community venues, workshops for people to get involved in music-making and pop-up performances happening across the borough.
