Under the collective group name of Crosscurrents Trio, Dave Holland, Zakir Hussain and Chris Potter join together as three of the most sophisticated and masterful arrangers and composers.

Three giants of American and Indian music: Crosscurrents Trio is an international supergroup of musicians who individually have played vital roles in pioneering advances in Jazz, developing and nurturing the cultural and musical connections between East and West.

“This equal-partners trio features Zakir Hussain in the equally virtuosic company of Chris Potter’s saxophone and Dave Holland’s bass. The trio is drawn from a larger Crosscurrents ensemble who investigated the boundaries of Indian music and jazz. Their mix of ragas swing and more besides was a highlight of the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival. That band featured Indian musicians on piano and guitar and had a somewhat exploratory air. But in this sparse trio environment, the comfort of chordal support is replaced by the sonic warmth of Hussain’s Indian drums. The depth and detail of the band’s rapport suggests the musicians are treading familiar ground.”

Opening the evening is Mongolian jazz singer Enji. With her one-off sound and delicate, dexterous vocals, Enji is garnering fans from the likes of BBC 6 music’s Gilles Peterson, as well as an invitation to perform a session for COLORS in Berlin. Enji’s latest album Ursgal recieved numerous 'Album of the Year' reviews with MOJO describing her as “Like Ella Fitzgerald singing in Khalkha”.
