Under the collective group name of Crosscurrents Trio, Dave Holland, Eric Harland and Chris Potter join together as three of the most sophisticated and masterful arrangers and composers.
A monumental and exceptional ensemble that will inspire and excite a global audience with their formidable display of virtuosity, brilliance and sophisticated musical language. An international supergroup featuring giants of jazz and world music, Cross Currents Trio is masterfully crafted and displays a clarity and intensity of vision with a deep desire of mutual respect for collaboration and love of music.
Opening the evening is Mongolian jazz singer Enji. With her one-off sound and delicate, dexterous vocals, Enji is garnering fans from the likes of BBC 6 music’s Gilles Peterson, as well as an invitation to perform a session for COLORS in Berlin. Enji’s latest album Ursgal recieved numerous 'Album of the Year' reviews with MOJO describing her as “Like Ella Fitzgerald singing in Khalkha”.
Due to a medical issue, Zakir Hussain is unfortunately currently unable to travel. Dave Holland and Chris Potter have decided to go ahead with the show and will be joined by drummer/percussionist Eric Harland.
“The trio is drawn from a larger Crosscurrents ensemble who investigated the boundaries of Indian music and jazz. Their mix of ragas swing and more besides was a highlight of the 2017 EFG London Jazz Festival. That band featured Indian musicians on piano and guitar and had a somewhat exploratory air. But in this sparse trio environment, the comfort of chordal support is replaced by the sonic warmth of Hussain’s Indian drums. The depth and detail of the band’s rapport suggests the musicians are treading familiar ground.”
Financial Times
“The Crosscurrents trio’s 2019 album ‘Good Hope’ was mesmerising from start to finish, so a chance to see this trio live is not to be missed.”
