The reverberations of British Jazz 1965-1975

Legendary east London DIY organisation Church Of Sound celebrates 10 years of existence and the release of their gatefold 10th Birthday compilation album with a debut appearance at Barbican, presenting a programme of works both old & new. 

Their vision for this show aims to situate Church Of Sound and its widespread community as a significant factor in the NOW of the British jazz continuum, at once standing atop the shoulders of our forefathers whilst maintaining a firm focus on what the future might hold.

The first set of the night comes in the form of a songbook, looking back in time to shine a light on what many refer to as a golden phase in British jazz, 1965 - 1975. Luminaries such as Ian Carr, Stan Tracey, Mike Westbrook, Michael Garrick & many others were in mystical form throughout this time, kicking out album upon album of classics that were to shape so much to come, and in following years have been much cherished by collectors & listeners alike. Through this programme, Church Of Sound aims to situate this phase as foundational to the continuum of British music as we know it.
