Crafting forward-thinking, expansive hybrids of jazz and hip-hop, Butcher Brown takes careful note of the history and legacy of jazz and throws caution to the wind.

Incorporating elements from funk, soul, rock, psych and more, they honour each musical genre and, at the same time, challenges traditional musical boundaries.

The result is their most exciting collection of tracks to date on album Solar Music.

'In an era where most kats their age are playing odd-meters and trying to obscure the “one” in an attempt to be hip, Butcher Brown affirms soulful and funky ain’t out of style.'

Nicholas Payton

'Butcher Brown is one of the really exciting groups on the scene right now. We toured together and they sounded amazing every night!'

Kamasi Washington

“If you’ve seen Richmond, Virginia’s funky, soulful, rocky, hip-hop masters Butcher Brown before then you’ll want to see them again. If you haven’t don’t miss the chance to let this awesome five piece take you on a journey of musical satisfaction in the intimate surrounding of Jazz Cafe. They really are one of the most exciting bands on the scene right now.”

John Osborne, Jazz FM Recommends 2024

“Easily my favourite group on this year's LJF line up, Virginia's finest Butcher Brown. They have blurred the lines between jazz, soul and funk and have consistently delivered quality in their live performances and innovative releases. Using analogue techniques and hip-hop sensibilities they have honed their original sound. A sound that is driven by drummer Corey Fonville's infectious rhythms, the luscious keys of Americas most gifted DJ Harrison, top drawer bass from Andrew Randazzo, big horn sounds from Marcus Tenney and not forgetting talented guitarist Morgan Burrs.”

Tony Minvielle, Jazz FM Recommends 2024
