Come down to the Baby Jazz Club! High-quality live music for little ones and their adults.
Award-winning jazz singer Nishla Smith is an artist driven by a desire to tell stories. Joined by pioneering pianist Matthew Bourne, she’ll present an eclectic and adventurous programme – from Bill Evans to Brian Eno, threaded through with unheard original music that draws from themes of nature, from the tiniest seed to a sky full of exploding stars
Nishla is a Peter Whittingham Jazz Award, International Songwriting Competition Award Winner and an alumni of Serious Music's flagship Take Five programme. She played the titular bird in Atri Banerjee’s acclaimed production of ‘Kes’, for which she won a UK Theatre Award, and has recently finished a run as ‘The Jazz Singer’, a role she originated in Emma Baggott’s production of ‘A Taste of Honey’ at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.
Matthew Bourne is a recipient of numerous awards and accolades, and possesses an inventive and unique artistic approach for bringing infirm pianos back to life in Harpsichords (2024), collaborating with classical musicians of the London Sinfonietta in Written/Unwritten, the acclaimed solo piano albums, Montauk Variations, Isotach, and reinterpretations of Amon Tobin’s work for Ninja Tune.
The Baby Jazz Club offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that still delivers the highest quality of performances. Feel free to move around, make noise and join in or sit back and enjoy. It aims to introduce babies and children to live music alongside a great experience for their adults to hear some of the best names in jazz and beyond.
