Ant Law & Chris Montague Quartet at Piano Smithfield – Nov 17 (EFG London Jazz Festival)

Two of the UK’s most innovative and sought-after guitarists, Ant Law and Chris Montague, join forces for the debut performance of their brand-new Ant Law & Chris Montague Quartet at Piano Smithfield on November 17, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

This thrilling collaboration grew from a powerful duo performance several years ago, and now blossoms into a dynamic quartet featuring two of the UK jazz scene’s most in-demand rhythm section players — the phenomenal Laurence Cottle on bass and the ever-creative Jamie Murray on drums. Together, the group will perform freshly composed original material, co-written by Law and Montague, that draws on a rich palette of contemporary influences.

Both Ant and Chris have forged reputations as boundary-pushing musicians, praised for their technical brilliance, bold writing, and boundary-defying approach to the guitar. Between them, they’ve worked with a staggering range of artists from Squarepusher, Jeff Ballard, and Sarah Gillespie, to Django Bates, Joel Ross, and BBC orchestras.

This concert marks a rare chance to hear two musical innovators share the stage — not in competition, but in creative collaboration. Expect fearless improvisation, intricate interplay, and some of the most compelling new sounds in UK jazz.

Don’t miss the premiere of this exciting new project – one night only at Piano Smithfield.
