Jazz Voice - SOLD OUT
14 Nov 2014
LONDON Rich Mix
35-47 Bethnal Green Road
Fresh from picking up the award for Best Jazz Act at this year's MOBO awards, we’re delighted to be bringing Zara McFarlane back to the London stage as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
‘Gilles Peterson has a star on his hands with Zara McFarlane; the young British vocalist took to the stage with confidence in an imaginative set.’ (**** The Guardian)
Rapidly asserting herself as an eloquent and provocative singer-songwriter, Zara McFarlane brings her new album If You Knew Her (Brownswood Recordings) to London's Rich Mix; an album that’s been fondly received amongst the press since its release earlier this year.
'The most interesting jazz singer to appear in years.’ (The Telegraph)
As an artist composing original songs, she tells her own stories and demands attention for their daring brilliance. Vocally akin to early Simone and Roberta Flack’s First Take, and delivered with the power and depth reminiscent of the ‘spiritual jazz’ movement of '70s black America. With a vibrant stage presence and a dynamic young band, her live performances are not to be missed.
Listen to tracks from If you Knew Her below.
Zara's show is preceded by a DJ set from Tony Nwachukwu - to many he is known as producer of the seminal band Attica Blues. His production, programming and remix credits extend to the likes of Courtney Pine, The Cinematic Orchestra, U.N.K.L.E, Jazzanova, and Tina Turner.
