Enrico Zanisi + Francesco Diodati "Yellow Squeeds" + Simona Severini + DRIVE!
LONDON Barbican / FreeStage (Level G)
Day two of a sequence of artists that demonstrate the depth of talent emerging from today’s Italian jazz scene.
With his solo album Piano Tales, Enrico Zanisi reveals his potential as both songwriter and player, whilst guitarist Francesco Diodati’s quintet Yellow Squeeds delves into the unusual textures of a line-up including trumpet and tuba.
A second solo set features Simona Severini, who travels through songwriting generations from Monteverdi to Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell in delicately woven acoustic and electronic textures.
A final set comes from DRIVE! - the new trio composed by Joe Rehmer on bass, Federico Scettri on drum and the pianist Giovanni Guidi, making his mark internationally with multiple albums for ECM, and
collaborations with Enrico Rava, Matthew Herbert, Tomasz Stañko. DRIVE!, a band whose collective interplay is breathaking.
Special guest through the day is Francesco Bearzatti - an award-winning saxophonist and clarinettist, including in 2011 Prix Du Musicien European Accademie du Jazz. He is considered the most important artist from Friuli, the region where he was born.
Programmed with I-Jazz. This concert is organised with the support of MiBACT and SIAE, as part of the initiative "Sillumina – Copia privata per i giovani, per la cultura".
