We Out Here presents Gary Bartz + Maisha with Dwight Trible & Zara McFarlane

LONDON Southbank Centre / Royal Festival Hall
Belvedere Road

The EFG London Jazz Festival teams up with Gilles Peterson's We Out Here Festival to bring back to life the project that celebrates legendary saxophonist and composer Gary Bartz's influential music.

In his musical journey spanning from being a sideman to Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Miles Davis and Art Blakey, to a solo career marking him as the luminary of the fusion movement of the 70s, Gary Bartz recorded impactful albums such as Another Earth, which took inspirations from John Coltrane's iconic A Love Supreme

After celebrating the 50th anniversary of this iconic release in New York at the beginning of this year, Gary Bartz comes to London accompanied by UK's leading spiritual jazz outfit Maisha's musicians led by Jake Long

This fascinating band also features singer Dwight Trible with his deep-rooted, soulful sound with a special guest; the MOBO award-winning, jazz-inspired vocalist Zara McFarlane.

(★★★★ Guardian)

'Saxophonist Gary Bartz is beyond legendary status with an incredible career spanning six decades, which has included work with Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Donald Byrd, McCoy Tyner, Abbey Lincoln, Art Blakey, Pharoah Sanders, Norman Connors and so many more. After spending some time in the company of this amazing musician on his last visit I am so pleased that so many more people will get to witness the genius of the man that brought us ‘Music Is My Sanctuary’.'
