The Write Stuff is a free short course coordinated by Serious, producers of the London Jazz Festival in association with Jazzwise, designed to develop the skills of emerging music journalists.

Taking place at the Southbank Centre during the EFG London Jazz Festival's opening and closing weekends, (11-12 November and 18-19 November 2017), the Write Stuff gives aspiring music journalists a valuable free opportunity to work with professionals to improve their writing skills, develop an understanding of music criticism and the workings of the music press both online and in print, as well as getting to see a bunch of great concerts! Participants will also have the chance to interview festival performers guided by the course facilitator.

The workshops will include sessions on feature writing and live reviews by Jazzwise writer and BBC broadcaster Kevin Le Gendre; an insight into the history and development of the UK jazz and music press with Jazzwise editor in chief Jon Newey; and a workshop on blogging and social media with Mike Flynn and Fiona Talkington, alongside input from other writers and jazz industry figures. All participants will be working towards an Arts Award qualification as a part of the course.

For more information, please see here.

The Write Stuff is free and open to anyone aged 18-25.

Participants must be available in London on the following dates: Friday 10 November (evening); Saturday 11 – Sunday 12 November and Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 November.

To apply to take part, applicants should please submit by email a 300-word review of a gig/concert that they have seen recently, together with a CV and full contact details to [email protected] by 17 October 2017 with 'The Write Stuff 2017' in the subject line.
