The Jazz Music of Dudley Moore

LONDON Live At Zédel
20 Sherwood Street

Chris Ingham celebrates a purveyor of quirky, imaginative jazz originals and the witty music for films like 'Bedazzled' and '30 Is A Dangerous Age, Cynthia '

The beloved comic actor Dudley Moore (1935-2002) was not only one of the UK's most dazzling and swinging jazz pianists but also a composer of wit and depth.

A true accompanist and big band pianist, Dudley rose to prominence in appearances and recordings with the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra, he then led an outstanding trio on stage, in clubs and concert halls and latterly on TV.

For all the acclaim he received as a comic actor, hilarious and lovable personality, the most interesting thing about Dudley Moore's reputation is how undervalued he is as a jazzman and composer. Chris Ingham's tribute to Dudley frames the context of his quartet's latest, and very welcome project, honouring the music of a prematurely lost and sadly missed jazz hero.
