Robert Mitchell – Invocation ft Panacea + Bournemouth Symphony Chorus + Goldsmiths (Big) Strings
LONDON Southbank Centre / Queen Elizabeth Hall
SE1 8 XX
Robert Mitchell draws together the mighty resources of two choirs, chamber ensemble and his own jazz quartet Panacea to create a heartfelt tribute to the transforming guidance of inspirational teachers the world over.
With performers of all ages, including key collaborators Eugene Skeef and vocal soloist Deborah Jordan, Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and conductor Gavin Carr, the London premiere of Invocation marks a further step in the musical evolution of one of this country’s most singular musical talents.
‘Robert Mitchell creates chamber jazz of astonishing beauty - a lyricist and a thinker, and British jazz is far richer for his presence.’ (Metro)
'There was a conceptual richness to Invocation that would be beyond even the most creative of beings and if the immense intricacy of the composing was commendable then so too was the real soulfulness, the humanity, at its core. The piece will be performed again at the EFG London Jazz Festival and could well be a highlight of the ten-day celebration' (Kevin Le Gendre, Jazzwise). Read the full review here.
