River Collective

LONDON Richmond Hillcroft Adult Community College

River Collective draws upon three groups; The Julian Costello Quartet, Stefanos Tsourelis Trio and Vertigo to create a jazz-infused evening with world music traditions, collective improvisation and original music.

Tonight they build on their hugely successful debut concert in 2016 with more exciting collaborations and new music written for this concert plus music composed and already recorded by the individual collective member’s own projects.

'Julian Costello Quartet' recently released ‘Transitions' on 33 Jazz records (Julian Costello / Maciek Pysz / Yuri Goloubev / Adam Teixeira)

'Stefanos Tsourelis Trio' recent debut C.D. 'Native Speaker' (Stefanos Tsourelis / Dave Jones / Eric Ford)

‘Vertigo' is a new World Music Trio of Tabla, Oud and Soprano Sax featuring Julian, Stefanos and Adam with a new recording to be released in 2019.

  • ‘ Maciek's compositions stay with you after listening and the trio play with great sensitivity and brilliant use of dynamics. The studio sound of this recording is pristine and worth hearing purely for the sound - but the music rewards the listener far beyond that. ’
    (Phil Wain)
  • ‘ ...Dave's writing is sophisticated and nuanced. Just when you think you know where he's going, there is a chance of texture or tempo, you do find yourself in an unexpected place and... it's beautiful! ’
    (London Jazz News)
  • ‘ Really enjoying Stefanos Tsourelis' new record, 'Native Speaker'. It's beautifully recorded with fantastic virtuosic playing, great compositions and a real sense of someone bringing something new to the table. Looking forward to catching them live. ’
    (Mike Outram)
  • ‘ The musical and cultural polarity displayed by this International group from their diverse backgrounds is proof that open music can provide the perfect meeting place to create something unique. ’
