Directions

A double-bill of progressive new music, with bassist Olie Brice leading his quintet and saxophonist Tom Challenger presenting a new work for trio.

Acclaimed improviser, composer and bassist Olie Brice leads his Quintet featuring cornettist Alex Bonney, saxophonists Mike Fletcher and George Crowley and legendary NY drummer Jeff Williams through his compositions influenced by free music, the jazz tradition and Jewish liturgical music, resulting in a band rich in colour and drama.

“One of the most interesting and satisfying bands on the current UK scene.” Richard Williams

For the first set, Tom Challenger presents a new work for trio, consisting of himself and Robert Stillman on Tenor Saxophones (and other instruments) and Tom Herbert on Bass. Each an influential and distinctive compositional and instrumental voice in their own right, this concert will bring all three voices together for the first time to frame each individuals unique sound palette in ever changing sound worlds.
