Myra Melford - Snowy Egret

LONDON Kings Place (Hall One)
90 York Way
N1 9AG

Pianist and composer Myra Melford is one of the most distinctive voices in today’s jazz, drawing from American vernacular musics to create music that is ‘lean, lithe and appealing’ (Wall Street Journal).

A serial award-winner, she makes a long-awaited foray into the UK celebrating the November release of a new recording on Firehouse 12 Records, with a band that displays her ability to write music that draws out the very best from an awesomely talented line-up of trumpeter Ron Miles, guitarist Liberty Ellman, Stomu Takeishi on bass, and drummer Gerald Cleaver

Support comes from vocalist and improviser Lauren Kinsella, one of London's most distinct performers. 'As compelling as a virtuoso instrumentalist, as alluring as the most enigmatic poet' (AllAboutJazz), Kinsella works within several areas including jazz, folk, contemporary composition and movement and its relationship with vocal sound. For this performance, she is joined by the inimitable Tom Challenger on saxophone and Dave Smith on drums. This is a London premiere of the trio's new work.

Pianist Myra Melford’s new album with her band Snowy Egret is one of my favourites of the year so far. It’s an all-star group of exciting players including guitarist Liberty Elman and drummer Gerald Cleaver playing Myra’s wholly distinctive music.
