Miles Mosley + Vels Trio
LONDON Islington Assembly Hall
Upright bassist, composer and producer and founding member of the West Coast Get Down collective, Miles Mosley has been called the ‘Jimi Hendrix of the upright bass’ by the LA Times, and was recently named one of Vanity Fair’s Rising Stars. His recent single ‘Abraham’ was named one of NPR’s favourite songs of 2016 so far.
Miles has performed, recorded, produced and toured with artists including Chris Cornell, Christina Aguilera, Sean King, Mos Def, India Arie, Lauryn Hill, Terrence Howard, Jonathan Davis of Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, Jason Mraz, Jeff Beck, Rihanna, and CeeLo Green. He recorded three tracks on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’; and is the upright bass player on long-time band-member Kamasi Washington’s ‘The Epic’- the critically acclaimed triple CD release.
Support comes in the shape of Vels Trio - three experimental jazz musicians born out of collective obsession, emotion and improvisation to sculpt contagiously frenetic compositions. They have shared the stage with acts such as Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles, Sons of Kemet, Moses Boyd's Exodus, Let Spin and two performances at the illustrious Love Supreme Festival. They are back with their heavy grooves and emotionally charged songwriting to create excitingly frenetic and irresistibly engaging live sound structures. They're sure to thrill not only the seasoned jazz lover but also the ever-growing ‘generation now’ of curious, broadminded and savvy music lovers.
