Marilyn Mazur – family-friendly matinee
16 Nov 2014
LONDON Southbank Centre / Purcell Room
Perched amidst a jungle of bells, gongs, cymbals and drums, Marilyn Mazur is a visual and aural delight. The Danish percussionist has made telling contributions to the music of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Jan Garbarek, and has emerged as a composer and leader whose music travels from softly understated lyricism, through mysterious and mesmeric rhythms to outbursts of wild energy – Spirit Cave adds the dimension of the expansive beats and soundscapes of the Norwegian masters of electronica, Jan Bang and Eivind Aarset.
We’re pleased to announce that Marilyn will be joined by special guest Nils Petter Molvaer.
‘A world of sculpted sound that references echoes of Scandinavia, North Africa, India and the Orient’ (Irish Times).
‘Extraordinary freedom and creativity’ (London Jazz)
Marilyn's performance forms part of our impressive 21 Commissions Programme.
Cinematic Orchestra’s guitarist Stuart McCallum opens with his ‘simple, understated, hypnotic’ sound (Jazz on 3).
