Les Demoiselles De Rochefort + Live music set with Lou Tavano and Q&A

LONDON Ciné Lumière
Institut Français 17 Queensberry Place

French new wave musical Les Demoiselles de Rochefort [The Young Girls of Rochefort] (1967), directed by Jacques Demy and starring Catherine Deneuve, will be screened as part of a very special event combining jazz and cinema at the Cine Lumiere.

It’s preceded by an exclusive live set by the charismatic young Parisian vocal sensation Lou Tavano, who made her debut on the prestigious ACT recording label in 2016, alongside with her regular pianist Alexey Asantcheeff. The Paris-based chanteuse offers her own original interpretation of a selection of LeGrand’s songs from the film, including the jazz standard ‘You Must Believe in Spring’, giving them a unique contemporary twist with influences that range from Billie Holiday and Jacques Brel through to Joni Mitchell and Tracy Chapman.

A Q&A discussion follows the screening and is hosted by BBC radio broadcaster Kevin Le Gendre in discussion with Lou Tavano and Jazzwise writer Selwyn Harris.

The event is part of the Jazz and the Image strand of the Festival and organised by jazz and film events producer, OFFBEAT, in association with Cine Lumiere and Bureau Export.
