Lebanese violinist and composer Layale Chaker and Sarafand play music from debut album Inner Rhyme - this celebrates Arabic poetry, unveiling musical threads woven by the rhythmical cycles of the twelve classical Arabic poetic meters.
Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Layale Chaker has studied the violin and the piano at the National Higher Conservatory of Beirut, before continuing her musical education at the Paris National Conservatoire and the School of Arts of Columbia University. Layale has appeared as a performer and composer in several concerts, recitals and projects across North America, Europe and the Middle-East, performing in Germany, France, Greece, Italy, the UK, Switzerland, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, the US, Canada, Indonesia and Argentina. She is also a member of the West-Eastern Divan under Daniel Barenboim, taking part in the orchestra’s performances at the BBC Proms, Teatro Colon, Mozarteum Salzburg, Philharmonie de Paris and der Philharmonie Berlin among others. Her compositions include works for solo, chamber music, orchestra, electronics, and several pieces for dance and film. Layale is a member of the inaugural Academy Inégales.
