Johnny Britt 'Marvin Meets Miles'
2 Empire Mews
Silkily powerful soul vocalist and trumpeter, Impromp2’s Johnny Britt’s new project explores what might just have happened had Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis ever shared the same stage.
A soulful interpretation of an imagined collaboration between two musical giants, just what would have happened if Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis had ever teamed up? The answer lies in this album launch special.
Louisville born Johnny Britt is a vocalist with range that lingers in that soft, buttery high tenor range regularly occupied by Marvin Gaye as well as being a world-renowned trumpeter greatly influenced by the less is more ethos of Miles Davis.
The fact that Britt sings and plays the trumpet explains why he would want to make the tribute album 'Marvin Meets Miles' in which his Harmon muted trumpet provides the second 'voice' to nine tunes from the Marvin Gaye songbook.
Britt is a singer, songwriter, producer, trumpeter, arranger and composer. Eagle-eyed modern soul connoisseurs will recognise his name for the work he did with rare-groove outfit, Impromp2. Session-wise and live, he's worked with a cross genre selection of stars including Josh Groban, David Bowie, Jennifer Lopez, The Temptations, Maxwell, Peabo Bryson, Quincy Jones, Luther Vandross, Dionne Warwick, Kashif, Norman Connors and The Winans and at the moment he's the music producer for the hit TV show 'America Sings'.
