Remembering Gil Evans with Andy Sheppard
11 Nov 2016
LONDON Kings Place (Hall One)
90 York Way
The London concert hall debut of two shooting stars of French jazz – an elegant and passionate combination of accordion and saxophone that echoes a French love affair with the music’s tradition.
Emile Parisien and Vincent Peirani have a voice that is entirely their own, however, making elegant yet passionate chamber jazz, distinguished by Peirani’s gift for melody and muscular rhythmic pulse complemented by the beguiling, wholly personal sound of Parisien’s soprano saxophone.
In this duo performance they will present music from their latest album Sfumato (out now on ACT), which the Guardian called ‘an exhilarating genre-hop bubbling with captivating remakes of US and European jazz traditions’ in their five-star review.
Performing music from her new album Solo Gemini, leading British pianist Nikki Yeoh opens the show, darting between kinetic rhythms and witty melodic flourishes.
'A gifted pianist taking a long-postponed journey' (**** Guardian)
