Eliane Elias + Vinícius Cantuária

LONDON Barbican
Silk Street

As 60 years of Bossa nova is being celebrated throughout the year, the festival audience will enjoy  a feast of Brazilian jazz with two inspirational musicians from the heart of it.

Eliane Elias
is known for her distinctive and immediately recognizable musical style which blends her Brazilian roots, her sensuous, alluring voice with her virtuosic instrumental jazz, classical and compositional skills. The multi Grammy Award-winning artist will be releasing a new album in September which, in her own words, is one the most romantic sets of music she has ever produced. With her London show, once again, her mastery and artistry as a vocalist, pianist, arranger and producer will be on full display.

Singer, guitarist, composer, drummer, and percussionist, Vinícius Cantuária is hailed as one of the pioneers of neo-Brazilian music and well–respected in the sphere of Bossa nova and jazz. With a career building musical bridges between Rio de Janeiro and New York, and collaborations with artists as eclectic as Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Brad Mehldau, Arto Lindsay, Caetano Veloso, Brad Mehldau and Bill Frisell, his music keeps on evolving, keeping subtlety, melody, diversity and sophistication at its core.

  • ‘ Elias' album is filled with hummable melodies and impressive, right-hand improv flourishes. ’
    (Downbeat (Editor's Pick)
  • ‘ If it’s bossa nova, Cantuaria's is a very 21st-century version: subtle electric and acoustic and sounds co-exist throughout ’
