Chris Biscoe & Kate Williams Quartet
LONDON Cadogan Hall / Foyer
5 Sloane Terrace
Drawing on wide spectrum of the jazz repertoire with Chris Biscoe on saxophone/alto clarinet, pianist Kate Williams, bassit Flo Moore and drummer Tristan Mailliot
The quartet draws on a wide spectrum of the jazz repertoire, from traditional forms (Petite Fleur), the American songbook, bebop and post-bop (Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk), contemporary British compositions by Chris Biscoe, Kate Williams and Pete Hurt, and Benjamin Britten’s quirky take on the blues, Roman Wall Blues.
Chris Biscoe has played with many leading jazz figures including George Russell, Hermeto Pascoal, Kenny Wheeler, Dewey Redman and Chris McGregor. His 40 year association with Mike and Kate Westbrook has resulted in several award winning albums and international tours. Chris has produced a series of CD's re-examining aspects of the jazz tradition, including the work of Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus and Gerry Mulligan with Paul Desmond.
Kate Williams is a prize winning pianist who has written for and produced eight albums, five for her own record label kwjazz. Her latest, Finding Home, with Georgia Mancio, jazz trio and string quartet was released in 2019 to great critical acclaim. Kate is a member of the Mingus Profiles Sextet with Chris Biscoe. Her playing is marked by great clarity, rhythmic drive and melodic invention.
Flo Moore is one of the most versatile and sought after bass players on the contemporary scene. Equally adept on acoustic and electric bass, she has performed with Peter King, Jason Rebello, Bobby Watson, Henry Lowther’s Still Waters, and is a member of the Tom Barford and Tom Ridout bands.
Tristan Mailliot played on several of Kate Williams’ records, and has appeared with Art Farmer, Jim Hall, Stan Tracey, John Dankworth, Fred Hersch, Jim Mullen and many other international artists. He leads the Loire Funk All Stars, featuring Flo Moore.
