The Bad Plus + Binker & Moses
13 Nov 2016
LONDON Cadogan Hall
5 Sloane Terrace
The sheer range of talent and commitment that exudes from this newly minted quartet is positively mouthwatering.
Chris Potter is one of the most assured saxophonists on the planet; Lionel Loueke’s blend of contemporary guitar sounds with echoes of the traditions of his native Benin absorbs and intrigues; Eric Harland’s muscular, dynamically sophisticated drumming places a stamp of authority wherever he sets foot; and Dave Holland’s commanding presence and mastery of groove, sound and creative spirit is simply inspirational. This is jazz for today’s generation, played by four masters of the art.
All four members are formidable leaders in their own right – but each of them have a profound understanding of the art of creating magic from a combination of individual skill and group sensibility – and between them, their collective history encompasses crucial contributions to the music of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Charles Lloyd, Sam Rivers, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Jim Hall - the list is ever-ending.
Elliot Galvin's highly regarded young trio mix modern jazz, classical music and free improv with technical expertise, humour and musical experimentation in a soaring opening set.
