James Farm: featuring Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks, Matt Penman, Eric Harland + Partisans - SOLD OUT
James Farm is a stellar quartet of saxophonist Joshua Redman and pianist Aaron Parks and completed by a rhythm section powered by drummer Eric Harland and bassist Matt Penman – a real contender for the jazz supergroup of today. Their recent Nonesuch album, City Folk, combines fluent contemporary bop soloing and compelling improvisations around pop-like tunes, country ballads and some European folk mutations to enthralling effect.
Partisans are a quartet co-led by two of the preeminent musicians of their generation, Phil Robson (guitars) and Julian Siegel (tenor sax & bass clarinet), with their line-up completed by Thaddeus Kelly (bass) and Gene Calderazzo (drums). The band are known for their ferociously energetic performances; bridging the gap between New York swing, European improv and UK rock, the band has developed a distinctive sound of its own.
Partisans recent release Swamp (Whirlwind Recordings) won a 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Award for Album Of The Year.
'This heavyweight jazz quartet continues to carve it's own niche with an eclectic jazz mix.' 5 Stars, BBC Music Magazine
'I'm a longtime fan of saxophonist Joshua Redman. He has a marvellous, glowing tone and I've loved pianist Aaron Parks especially on his solo album Aborescence so I'll be there to hear them both as part of James Farm.’ (Sarah Ward, Jazz FM)
